There was a time when I almost quit cosplaying. It wasn’t because I didn’t find it fun anymore. I still enjoyed making costumes and getting dressed up as a character, and I definitely enjoyed photoshoots, conventions, and meeting new friends. What I hated were the cosplay fans, the ones who scrutinized every detail of a costume, found it unworthy, and then bitched about it behind my back.

An Open Letter from the Editor-In-Chief

I have already written similar messages across all of my social media platforms, but I wanted to again take a moment to apologize for the entire TakoPop/Twitter/Facebook situation that occurred. While the entire incident occurred and quickly escalated while I was away from the internet, as the Owner and Editor-in-Chief of TakoPop.com, I feel a personal responsibility and accountability for what happened. Not only do I disapprove of these comments and actions as someone affiliated with TakoPop (a sentiment shared by the rest of our staff), but I disapprove of them on a personal level – as a person, as a cosplayer, and as a woman. I, personally, make a conscious and concerted effort to treat everyone with respect and kindness. I find rudeness, disrespect, childish attacks and name calling completely distasteful and unacceptable. And I want to apologize that the actions of someone affiliated with TakoPop could even be described as less than exemplary (to put it mildly). I also want to state that these actions couldn’t be farther from the spirit with which TakoPop was founded – to create a place online that wasn’t afraid to discuss some of the more controversial issues within cosplay and convention culture …
